PROGRAM STATUS
COPYRIGHTED Dan Moore, 1988.
GMS and its associated programs are distributed as
"Shareware" if they are used by individuals for
recreational purposes. Licensing is required for
commercial/business use of GMS; additional details are
included later in this document.
SHAREWARE
If you find the GMS programs useful, contributions will be
appreciated. How much the GMS programs are worth is
entirely up to you; there are no "set" or "recommended"
contributions and there is no "registered version" of the
programs. The GMSUTIL program, which allows you to keep
courses in compressed (ARC) format very conveniently, will
save you a lot of hard disk space (an average of 80k per
course file), and will also save you a lot of time while
managing your MEAN 18 course directory.
If you are curious as to how much GMSUTIL can save you,
run the GM$SAVE program. It will give you an idea of
how much can be saved based on the size and cost of your
hard disk, and the number of course files you have.
If you chose not to contribute, please do not rationalize.
People do not pay for shareware for one reason and one
reason only: they don't have to, and there is nothing the
author can do about it.
All contributions and license fees received will be used
solely for the support of other shareware and bulletin
board systems who make the distribution of this type of
software possible.
COMMERCIAL / BUSINESS USE OF GMS
Licensing is required if the GMS programs are used in a
business/commercial environment or as a marketing tool for
any purpose whatsoever --ie, computer stores using GMS to
promote sales of the MEAN 18 program--. A single
commercial site copy with logo screen is priced at $30.
LIMITED FUNCTION SOFTWARE
The GMS programs are not limited in their functions; there
are no "registered" copies of these programs.
The practice of limiting or removing program features to
encourage contributions is extremely annoying. It often
discourages and alienates the potential contributor who may
have spent time and effort downloading the programs and had
no way of knowing that he was not getting the real thing.
Also annoying are permanent "beg screens" which can only be
removed by acquiring the registered version of the program
(or can't be removed at all). The GMS and GMSUTIL programs
do display a beg screen, but it can be eliminated by the
user very easily.
SUPPORT
DO NOT send any contribution until you have thoroughly
tested these programs. Since I cannot make any guarantee
of support, it is important that you be satisfied with the
product before contributing.
I will corrected reported problems to the extent that I can
recreate them on the personal computer system(s) I have
access to. I will continue to improve the programs and new
releases will be distributed as they become available. No
other specific statements of support are made.
